CPM SPY27 is a state-of-the-art powder metallurgy steel that takes the time-tested performance of cobalt-enriched VG-10 and supercharges it with niobium, nitrogen, and increased volumes of carbon, molybdenum, and vanadium. The result is a purpose-designed blade material that offers an exceptional balance of edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. Developed in close cooperation with Crucible Industries and proprietary to Spyderco, this American-made steel is now available in our iconic lightweight models manufactured in Japan. All these knives showcase the remarkable properties of CPM SPY27 with ultra-keen, full-flat-ground blades. Their satin-finished PlainEdge blades are paired with lightweight fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handles injection molded in a distinctive cobalt blue-one of the signature handle colors of our SPY27 family.
